General info

At your first visit, the front desk will make a copy of your insurance card to keep in your file. Please make sure that you have your card with you at your visit. If you are a returning patient and have new insurance, please bring your card so we can update your file.

Referrals & authorization

Certain insurance plans have provisions that require patients to obtain referrals when specialty care is needed. These referrals can be obtained from your primary care physician.

Since insurance companies will not pay for services without the required referral, Central Coast Arthritis and Orthopedic Specialists requires a physical referral to be provided at the time of service, prior to treatment. Our staff can assist you in contacting your primary care physician to acquire the referral.

What to expect

Your first visit

All patients require an appointment to be seen by Dr. Orlando. If this is your first time visiting Central Coast Arthritis and Orthopedic Specialists, please bring the following:

Identification

  • Insurance card
  • Picture ID (Drivers License, Passport, Work ID)

Additional requirements

  • Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your appointment time.
  • Please be sure to bring any prior imaging you have received from your referring physician (MRIs, X-rays, etc.).
  • Please plan 1 to 1 ½ hours for your total visit.
  • Clinic staff will verify your personal and clinical history.
  • You will meet Dr. Orlando for your appointment, and depending on your diagnosis, he will discuss treatment options.

After your procedure

You will receive a written copy of your post-surgery instructions from Dr. Orlando. It is important you, your family, and care takers read all of the instructions. Generally, Central Coast Arthritis and Orthopedic Specialists recommends the following:

  • Have someone available to take you home, as you will not be able to drive for at least 24 hours.
  • Generally, you will be advised not to drink or eat anything in the car on the trip home, as the combination of anesthesia, food, and car motion can cause nausea or vomiting.
  • After arriving home, wait until you are hungry before trying to eat. Begin with a light meal and try to avoid greasy food for the first 24 hours.
  • If you had surgery on an extremity (leg, knee, hand or elbow), keep that extremity elevated and use ice as directed. This will help decrease swelling and pain.
  • Take your pain medicine as directed. Begin the pain medicine as you start getting uncomfortable, but before you are in severe pain. If you wait to take your pain medication until the pain is severe, you will have more difficulty controlling the pain.

Always there to care

I have been a patient of Dr. Orlando's for over 6 months now, & every step of the way, throughout my injury process, Dr. Orlando & his staff were incredibly informational & helpful. Helping me navigate my way back to work with any questions or concerns I had. I ended up needing surgery from Dr. Orlando, & the whole process was absolutely comforting and informative. I am now recovering & couldn't be happier or more pleased with the professionalism, comforting, & informative way of Dr. Orlando & his staff. He is an amazing & personable physician that truly cares for his patients.

Joe McLaughlin

We have been patients of Dr. Orlando for eight years now. He is an excellent doctor and surgeon who has helped all three of our children with their various sports injuries. He is kind, courteous, and never in a rush. He allows his patients to make the final decision about surgery. Great doctor, great facility.

Sports Injuries

SPORTS MEDICINE

I was in extreme pain the first time I saw Doctor Orlando-I could barely walk, I received an injection that cleared 80% of my pain and the next few days I was 100% better. He has told me I will eventually need surgery on my knee as it is really bone on bone. He is not pushing me to have surgery. He is excellent, very knowledgeable and caring.
